I'm Nick (or Nicky), my pronouns are they/them and I knit, crochet and do various other creative things with yarn! I’m based in the UK and I've been knitting for 13-ish years, but only crocheting since March 2024 - at the moment I'm really enjoying experimenting, learning and trying all sorts of new stuff!
For now I'm mostly just sharing photos of the stuff I make, but in the future I expect to use this website to share patterns and products, along with my thoughts about yarncrafts and creativity more generally. Expect to see Pokémon amigurumi, a hell of a lot of knitted queer stuff, and a truly excessive amount of hats.
Outside of crochet and knitting I'm a professional photographer (amongst a whole host of other things tbh). You can check out my professional work here, and I also run a portrait project all about transgender awareness and empowerment called Trans Portraits UK. Give me a follow on social media if you like feel good photos of queer people and things!
Beyond all that, I’m essentially just a big nerd who thinks about food a lot. I spend large portions of my time reading fanfiction (current hyperfixation is Our Flag Means Death), walking up and down big hills for fun and playing way too much Stardew Valley!

Crochet I reckon.
Personally the thing that really keeps me going with yarn crafts is the gratification of finishing something - I tend to get super bored with long projects and then wander off to start something new, without ever finishing them. Since crochet works up much more quickly, I get a lot of satisfaction out of it.
That being said, I think knitting creates nicer textures a lot of the time, particularly if you’re making clothes or anything wearable. Might do a blog about it at some point idk.

As we all know, jokes are always much funnier when you have to explain them. I usually write my name like this: Nick(y), because I go by both Nick or Nicky, so the brackets have always seemed like a good way of indicating that the y is optional.
I added another bracket for fun when I decided to go with the online name Knicky Knits. I liked the idea that there’s a silent k in front of my name - but only on an optional basis. Like, the k is there for knitting related scenarios ONLY!
And then I guess it’s like once you’ve added two brackets to your name, you may as well keep adding them. Maybe I should add more.

Well, I wouldn’t really say informing you about it is being “in your face”, but at least it’s nice to have an excuse to talk about this.
So I’m transgender and I’m pretty open about that. Regarding pronouns specifically, most people wouldn’t tend to assume someone uses they/them pronouns just from looking at them. If I want to avoid being misgendered constantly (and the gender dysphoria that comes along with it) I have to take a really proactive approach. Telling people my pronouns is a preventative measure, in a lot of ways.
Knitting and crochet are regarded by many as “feminine crafts” (whatever that means). Quite honestly the field does tend to be dominated by women. In a lot of ways it’s really wicked to see so many amazing, skilled women leading the way in this art form, but I often find that I get misgendered/experience certain micro-aggressions more frequently in women-heavy spaces - not to mention that I don’t always feel comfortable with the gendered nature of those spaces in the first place. So it’s pretty important to me that I state who I am right from the outset.
Outside all of that I’m a pretty big fan of queering narratives and spaces anyway. Also, I really like who I am, and being trans has played a huge part in shaping me. Why wouldn’t I want to talk about it?
